Terms of use
These terms cover the StoiK Editor software and this website. By installing the software or buying a subscription you agree to them. Read the part about what the software does not do: it matters for how you use it.
1. Who you are dealing with
StoiK Editor ("the software", "StoiK") is developed and licensed by [developer's legal name], an individual based in Bulgaria ("we", "us"). Subscriptions are sold through a payment provider acting as merchant of record, named on the checkout page and on your receipt. The merchant of record is the seller for the payment, handles VAT and invoicing, and processes refunds; the license to use the software comes from us under these terms.
2. What the software is
StoiK is a Windows desktop application that opens ECU calibration files (binary dumps), shows the calibration maps inside them as tables, graphs and 3D surfaces, lets you edit those values, compare files, and save a copy. It runs on your computer and works on files on your disk.
3. What the software does not do
These limits are part of the product, not defects:
- It does not read or write an ECU. It never communicates with a vehicle, an ECU, an OBD interface or any flashing hardware. Reading from and writing to the ECU is done with separate tools of your choice.
- It does not correct checksums in version 1. A file you save carries whatever checksums it had, adjusted only by the bytes you changed. Every save tells you this. Correcting checksums is your task, with a tool that does it.
- It does not validate your changes. It shows and stores values. Whether a value is safe for an engine, a transmission or any other component is your judgement as the operator.
- It has no presets for disabling or altering emissions-control systems or any other vehicle function. Every edit is a change you make yourself to values you chose.
4. Your responsibilities
StoiK is a tool for professional and technically trained users. When you use it you are responsible for:
- every value you change and every file you save;
- keeping a copy of the original file (the software never writes to the file you opened, but the copy you make is yours to keep);
- correcting checksums with a suitable tool before a file is written to a vehicle;
- verifying the result before a vehicle is driven;
- complying with the law where you are. Changing a road vehicle's engine calibration can make it unlawful to use on public roads, for example under emissions, type-approval or road-traffic rules. Use StoiK only where the law allows the change, and never to defeat emissions controls on a vehicle used on public roads where that is prohibited.
5. The license
A subscription gives you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to install and use StoiK on one computer at a time for as long as the subscription runs. The license is delivered as a license file or key tied to your subscription.
- To move to a new computer, write to us: we move the license and the old computer stops being licensed.
- You may not share, sell, rent or lend the license, or make it available to anyone outside your own workshop or business.
- You may not reverse engineer, decompile, modify or redistribute the software, or circumvent or disable its license check, except where the law gives you a right we cannot exclude.
- The software and its name, logo and documentation remain our property. Nothing here transfers any copyright to you.
The demo is the same software without the ability to save the working copy. You may use it free of charge for as long as you like, under these same terms.
6. Payment, renewal and cancellation
The price is shown on the pricing page and at checkout. VAT is added at checkout where it applies. A subscription renews each month until you cancel. You can cancel at any time; the license keeps working until the end of the period you have paid for, and you are not charged again. Refunds are described in the refund and cancellation policy.
7. Updates and support
Updates are included while your subscription runs. We may add, change or remove features; if a change removes something you rely on, you can cancel. Support is by email and on a best-effort basis: we answer questions about the software, not about tuning a particular engine.
8. No warranty
The software is provided as it is. To the extent the law allows, we make no promise that it is free of errors, that it fits a particular purpose, or that it works with any particular ECU, file or definition. We do promise what section 3 says: it does not touch your original file, and a saved file always has the same length as the file it came from.
9. Limits of liability
To the extent permitted by applicable law, we are not liable for damage to vehicles, engines, control units or other property, for lost data, lost profit or lost business, or for any indirect or consequential loss, arising from the use of files edited with the software or from the use of the software itself. Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to the amount you paid for the software in the twelve months before the claim.
Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability for intent or gross negligence, for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or any other liability that the law does not allow to be excluded. If you are a consumer, nothing here takes away rights that consumer law gives you.
10. Ending the license
The license ends when your subscription ends. We may end it earlier if you break section 5 (sharing, circumventing the license check, redistributing the software); in that case no refund is due for the current period.
11. This website
The website is provided for information. Screenshots show the software with example files; values in them are not tuning advice. We may change the website and these terms at any time. The terms that apply to a purchase or renewal are the ones published here at that time.
12. Law and disputes
These terms are governed by the law of Bulgaria. If you are a consumer in the European Union, you also keep the protection of the mandatory consumer law of the country you live in, and you may bring a dispute before the courts there. Before any dispute, write to us: most questions are settled by email.
